Minister Thulas Nxesi Nxesi leads campaign of taking services closer to Bushbuckridge communities

Beginning on 8 January 2024, the Department of Employment and Labour launched the Taking Services Closer to the People campaign, focusing on the communities in the Bushbuckridge areas of Casteel, Shatale, and Hluvukani. The Minister joined them in these endeavours.

The department's "Taking Services Closer to the People" campaign seeks to lessen the travelling by community members from remote locations to department offices to access the services the department provides. These campaigns are held year-round in all provinces to ensure accessibility.

Employment and Labour Minister, T.W. Nxesi, today led the campaign of taking services closer to the communities of Bushbuckridge on 10 January 2024.

"It is imperative that we leave our offices and take all our services closer to communities in the country. In the areas I visited today, where our officials were hard at work since the morning, there were scores of our people needing services of Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), Compensation Fund and Public Employment Services (PES)," said the Minister.

The Minister expressed his admiration for the career counsellors who were offering guidance and career advice to the numerous young individuals who attended today.

"This week, we introduced fully integrated services. Our inspectors conducted inspections in the Hazyview and Whiteriver areas.

"Meanwhile, UIF and Compensation Fund received inquiries and processed claims in Bushbuckridge. Lastly, our Public Employment services were provided."

The 'taking services' to Bushbuckridge precedes the Mpumalanga Jobs Fair which is an event where job seekers can interact with potential employers and learn about available job opportunities.

Accompanying the minister amongst others was Mandla Sibanyoni, Chief Director of Provincial Operations in Mpumalanga, who explained that the purpose of the jobs fair is to assist job seekers in locating employment opportunities and assist employers in finding qualified candidates for their job openings.

"All of these channels will be available through the Public Employment Services branch of the Department of Employment and Labour."

The jobs fair takes place tomorrow, Thursday, 11 January 2024 at Thulamahashe Stadium, Bushbuckridge.
