ERIE, PA (May 6, 2021)- Proceeds from Erie Insurance's 2020 'Charity Challenge' will benefit nonprofit organizations in both Erie ($50,000) and Allentown ($50,000) for a total commitment of $100,000.
Due to COVID-19, Erie Insurance's annual Charity Challenge golf tournaments in Erie and Allentown were not held in 2020, but team captains who participated in the 2019 event voted on nonprofits to receive a total of $100,000 in donations in Erie and Allentown.
'It was important for us to continue the Charity Challenge, despite the fact that we couldn't host the annual golf tournament,' said Ann Scott, community outreach manager at Erie Insurance. 'Even though the past year has looked different in many ways, we remain committed to support the communities where we live and work.'
The nonprofits recipients in Erie include The Boys and Girls Club of Erie, Emmaus Ministries, Erie City Mission, Second Harvest Food Bank and the Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network.
The nonprofit recipients in Allentown include the Boys and Girls Club of Allentown, Inc., Face to Face, Nazareth Area Food Bank, Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania.
The Golf Charity Challenge started in 2010 in Erie, Pennsylvania and has awarded more than $750,000 to Erie area nonprofits. It expanded to Allentown, Pennsylvania in 2017 and has raised more than $135,000 for that community.
The 2021 Charity Challenge Golf Tournament will be held Monday, August, 23, 2021 at the Sacoun Valley Country Club and on Monday, September 13, 2021 at the Kahkwa Club. The dates are subject to ERIE's pandemic protocols - including cancellation -- to prioritize the health and safety of participants and volunteers.
