Readout of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement visit to the Torrance County Detention Facility in Estancia, NM

WASHINGTON - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement leadership visited the Torrance County Detention Facility Estancia, NM today to tour the facility. The agency continually adjusts its national detention system based on operational needs. The ability for the agency to remove individuals to their home countries, detain those that require detention and are a public safety threat is directly dependent on location and availability of detention space. ICE continues to modernize the immigration system and realize cost efficiencies across the operational landscape while continuing to work with DHS leadership and Congress to secure resources.

The agency has an intergovernmental service agreement (IGSA) with Torrance County and the facility is operated by CoreCivic, a valued partner in the immigration detention space. The use of private detention contractors is a vital piece of the national detention system enabling ICE to execute its mission.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement engages with stakeholders nationwide, including state, local, tribal, territorial governments, elected officials, and law enforcement, the private sector, faith-based organizations and colleges and universities.
