Galway City St. Patrick's Bank Holiday Weekend 2025, 12th March 2025

Gardaí in Galway will have an extensive policing plan in operation for St Patrick's Day. Road closures and traffic management measures will be in place throughout the day to ensure the festivities in the city centre can be enjoyed by all with as little disruption as possible.

We ask that people mind themselves and one another, and to please call on any Garda on patrol should they require help or support.

To allow for the parade there will be road closures and traffic restrictions in place across the city centre from early morning on Monday, 17th March. These closures and restrictions will be managed by Gardaí on a staggered basis depending on location.

The parade starts at 11:30am at University of Galway, onto University Road, crossing Salmon Weir Bridge, onto St Francis Street, Eglinton Street, Williamsgate Street, Eyre Square and Bóthar na mBan, finishing at Dyke Road carpark. Road closures along the route will be in place from 11am until approximately 2pm.

We advise those of you attending the parade to:

• Pick an area along the route to view the parade ahead of time
• Arrive early
• Plan your journey into the city in advance
• Use public transport where possible
• Keep children under close supervision to avoid being accidentally separated in the crowd
• Pack sensibly and mind personal belongings

We also advise motorists and those of you commuting into or through the city on Monday to:

• Plan the journey in advance
• Follow all road signage
• Adhere to the instructions of Gardaí and stewards
• If parking, park and lock your car in secure place where it is legal to do so and which does not block access.

Lastly, we recommend those heading out to socialise this St. Patrick's Day to:

• Plan the night out - tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back
• Carefully mind personal belongings particularly in crowded areas
• Drink alcohol responsibly
• Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs and be mindful of driving the morning after
• If you must walk home only walk in well lit, populated areas and where you can be seen by traffic. Remember, there is safety in numbers.
