Bracell makes a commitment with the São Paulo government to preserve 115 thousand hectares of native forests

The initiative is part of the company's One-for-One Commitment and will last ten years in Public Environmental Protection Areas

Bracell, a global leader in the production of dissolving pulp, made with the Government of the State of São Paulo, through the Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics (Semil), the commitment to protect 115 thousand hectares of native forests in Public Areas of Environmental Protection in the next 10 years. The initiative, in addition to being part of the company's One-for-One Commitment - which establishes that for every hectare planted with eucalyptus, Bracell will conserve one hectare of native forest - is also part of the company's strategic ESG agenda for 2030, which brings together sustainability goals and commitments.

Bracell's vice president of sustainability, Márcio Nappo, explains that protecting native vegetation is one of the company's priorities. "We adopt this commitment and biodiversity permanently and seek to establish long-term partnerships, like the one we made with the Government of São Paulo, in the other regions where Bracell operates. Although the expectation is that we will reach 100% of the target in 2025, I am happy to say that, at the end of 2022, we had already reached 82%, which reinforces our commitment to sustainable development", he states.

At the end of October last year, Bracell renewed its commitment to sustainability with the launch of Bracell 2030, the company's long-term strategy made up of 14 sustainability goals and commitments linked to climate, biodiversity, people and communities.

The partnership with the Government of São Paulo is aligned with Bracell 2030, which has as one of its goals supporting the conservation of 230 thousand hectares of native vegetation in public areas, carrying out actions to protect and conserve public conservation units in the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado.

"Governor Tarcísio de Freitas gave us the directive to support projects and seek solutions to enable the restoration of degraded areas in the State, which is why we will join actions like Bracell's and remain committed to the preservation and restoration of the environment. In fact, at COP 28, we presented our Green Portfolio, which includes a series of actions to promote green agendas, preservation, restoration of degraded areas and other climate solutions based on the different biomes of our state", explains the Undersecretary of Environment, Jônatas Trindade.
