ANAHEIM, Calif.(Oct. 26, 2021) - Altars at Anaheim's community centers and other facilities will celebrate the Dia de los Muertos tradition of remembering loved ones passed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1.
Altars assembled by hand with photos, flowers, candles and favorite foods and drinks of passed loved ones will be on display at seven locations across the city.
Known as ofrendas, the altars are offerings to passed loved ones in the hopes of encouraging a spiritual connection with them. It is a centuries-old tradition and Mexican holiday embraced by those of Mexican descent in Anaheim as well as others across our city.
Anaheim's altar displays honor Dia de los Muertos as our traditional Day of the Dead celebration pauses this year. While we are seeing an easing in COVID-19 cases, summer planning for the event had to take into account the delta variant surge.
Everyone is welcomed to visit Anaheim's altar displays from Friday, Oct. 29, through Monday, Nov. 1.
