Tech trailblazer: Geda’s journey to success

MINOT, N.D. - Growing up in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Nahom Geda has always been recognized for his forward-thinking nature and knack for technology.
Now, he's embarking on a journey to revolutionize the way small businesses perceive and interact with their customers.
Choosing Minot State University was a deliberate decision for Geda.
"Minot State University offers a vibrant community of international students like myself, creating a welcoming environment where I can connect with others who share similar experiences," he said. "The small teacher-to-student ratio appeals to me as it means I'll receive personalized attention and build strong relationships with my professors."
While heavily involved in campus life, Geda found community in the various events at Minot State. From cultural festivals to academic workshops, the campus buzzed with excitement and opportunity.
"The variety of events on campus keeps things exciting and offers opportunities to socialize, learn, and have fun with fellow students," he said. "There's always something happening to enrich my college experience."
Geda's desire for something more than the ordinary led him to Minot State's computer science and mathematics department. Through his stories, he embarked on a transformative project - a customer sentiment analysis web app. This innovative endeavor aims to empower small businesses with insights into customer feedback, utilizing AI technologies.
"I grew up in a community where routine was the norm, but I yearned for something greater," shares Geda. "Computer science offered me a pathway to innovation and endless possibilities.
"The project is for my capstone class. I recognized the potential to revolutionize sentiment analysis using AI. My goal is to create a user-friendly tool that provides valuable insights to businesses, enhancing their decision-making processes."
Balancing classes and commitments posed initial challenges for Geda. However, he embraced the opportunity for growth through meticulous planning and goal setting to stay organized and make steady progress on his website project.
"Time management and social interaction were hurdles I faced, but I learned to prioritize tasks and engage with diverse perspectives," shares Geda. "Setting weekly goals and utilizing productivity tools helps me stay on track."
Looking to the future, Geda sees his project as a stepping stone to a career in full-stack development. He sees it not just as a project but also as a gateway to endless possibilities in the tech industry.
"This project marks the beginning of my journey towards a career where I can fully utilize my skills and creativity in building innovative digital solutions," he said. "It's the foundation upon which I'll build my expertise in full-stack development."
Geda's passion for technology is palpable as he continues, "It is not just about mastering the technical aspects. I'm also excited about the creative freedom that comes with web development. The ability to design captivating interfaces and bring ideas to life through code is what truly drives me."
As Geda reflects on his journey thus far, he expresses gratitude for the support and guidance he has received along the way.
"I wouldn't be where I am today without the encouragement of my professors, the camaraderie of my peers, and the resources available at Minot State University," he acknowledges. "Their unwavering support has fueled my passion for technology and inspired me to dream big."
For aspiring web developers and computer scientists, Geda offers sage advice.
"Start with the basics, practice regularly, and don't procrastinate. Side projects alongside classes can be incredibly rewarding," he said.
Armed with skills, determination, and a boundless enthusiasm for innovation, Geda stands poised to make his mark in the ever-evolving landscape of technology.
