Hundreds celebrate at Macon Hispanic Heritage Fest

On Saturday, September 17, hundreds of people made their way to Rosa Parks Square to take part in the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. The first Macon Hispanic Heritage Fest was held in partnership with the Macon-Bibb's Office of Small Business Affairs, Mercer University, and NotiVision Georgia.

During the 6-hour event, families got food from local food trucks, played games, watched dancers and performers, listened to live music, and participated in giveaways.

"The Hispanic Heritage Fest was a huge success. It was great watching people from different backgrounds submerge themselves in the Hispanic culture through music, food, and so much more," said Mayor Lester Miller. "I am so proud to have seen so many people in our community come together!"

"The Office of Small Business Affairs was pleased with the support from and turn out by out community," said Community Outreach Manager Elizabeth Almena. "We were glad we had the chance to represent so many cultures and countries, distribute resources, and create a space where families were able to relax. We hope the next celebration is bigger and better!"

Every year, the United States observes National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. The month is aimed to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Mayor Miller also presented a proclamation claiming Hispanic Heritage Month in Macon-Bibb County earlier this week.
