10/05/23 - Crash STH 49 and CTH

On Thursday October 5th, 2023, at approximately 6:40 PM, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office along with the Alto Fire Department and Life Star Ambulance were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on STH 49 south of CTH E, in the Township of Alto, Fond du Lac County Wisconsin.

The initial investigation shows that a southbound vehicle, driven by an 84-year-old female from Waupun, was turning left into a private driveway. A northbound motorcycle, driven by a 28-year-old man from Waupun, struck the rear passenger side door of the vehicle. The operator of the passenger vehicle and her passenger, an 85-year-old man from Waupun, were transported to Waupun Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Theda Star Helicopter responded and transported the operator of the motorcycle to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

State Highway 49 between County Road E and County Road AW was closed for approximately four and half hours while the crash was investigated.

Assisting at the scene were Ripon Ambulance, Waupun Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, the Fond du Lac County Highway Department, and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office Crash Team.
