1st Avenue E Lane Reduction

Effective immediately, October 6, eastbound traffic on 1^st Avenue E is reduced to one lane at 40^th Street Drive SE for manhole repairs. Work is expected to take approximately three (3) days, weather permitting.

15th Avenue SW Lane Reduction

Effective Thursday, October 6, the 15^th Avenue SW will be reduced to one lane between 12^th Street and 18^th Street for bridge maintenance. Work is expected to take two (2) days.

Lindale Trail Extension Project Update, Upcoming Traffic Impacts to Blairs Ferry Road and C Avenue NE to Begin Wednesday Night

Pavement, utility, signal and pedestrian work continues to move forward on the Lindale Trail Extension - Phase 1 project. Upcoming road closures along C Avenue NE and Blairs Ferry Road will be necessary to allow the contractor to continue work. Message signs will be placed five business days prior to the closures to alert local traffic of impacts and to anticipate travel delays.

Starting at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5:

• Traffic on Blairs Ferry Road will not be able to cross through the intersection of C Avenue.
• Traffic on C Avenue NE will not be able to turn onto Blairs Ferry Road.
• The closure is needed so crews can install new sidewalk and ADA ramps, traffic signals, and water main across Blairs Ferry Road.
• A signed detour route will be in place, directing traffic to use Collins Road and Marion Boulevard (to the east) or Council Street (to the west) to navigate around the closure.
• This work is scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. on Monday, October 10.

This project includes a tunnel underpass beneath Blairs Ferry Road. Traffic has been shifted to the north lanes of Blairs Ferry Road while crews prepare to place a culvert on the south side of the road. Water main has been relocated and private utility relocations are pending.

4th Avenue SE Closure at Railroad Tracks

Effective immediately, Tuesday, October 4, 4^th Avenue SE is closed at the railroad tracks between 3^rd Street and 5^th Street for track maintenance performed by UP Railroad. Work is expected to take four (4) days. Access to businesses will be maintained.

8th Street SE Lane Reduction

Effective this afternoon, Tuesday, October 4, northbound traffic on 8^th Street SE will be reduced to one lane between 4^th Avenue and 3^rd Avenue for utility work. Work is expected to take three (3) days.

Ellis Boulevard and F Avenue NW Intersection Closure for Roundabout Construction

Effective Wednesday, October 5, the intersection of Ellis Boulevard and E Avenue NW will open, and the intersection of Ellis Boulevard and F Avenue will close for construction of a roundabout in connection with the Ellis Boulevard and 6^th Street NW Connector project. The work will take approximately three (3) months.

8th Avenue SE Upcoming Traffic Impacts Due to Mercy Skywalk Construction

Starting Monday October 3, work will begin on the construction of a skywalk across 8^th Avenue SE for Mercy Medical Center. Alternating closures on 8^th Avenue SE between 8^th Street and 14^th Street will take place over a 3-week period, and will include the following:

• Monday October 3, 8^th Avenue SE will be reduced to one lane in the westbound direction between 10^th Street and 8^th Street for 2 days.

• Wednesday October 5, all traffic on 8^th Avenue SE between 8th Street and 14th Street will be shifted to the two westbound lanes, with one lane in both directions. This phase will be in place for 15 days. Additionally, the following movements will be restricted:
  • 8^th Street SE north of 8^th Avenue will be restricted to right-in, right-out access only.
  • 8^th Street SE south of 8^th Avenue will have right-in access only.
  • 10^th Street SE north of 8^th Avenue will be restricted to right-in, right out access only.
  • 10^th Street SE south of 8^th Avenue will not be accessible from 8^th Avenue.
  • Thursday October 20, 8^th Avenue SE will be closed to all traffic between 8^th Street and 10^th Street for skywalk placement for 4 days. Traffic will be detoured to 4^th Avenue SE. Emergency Room access from eastbound 8^th Avenue SE will be available from 8th Street thru the frontage road. Westbound 8^th Avenue SE traffic will have Emergency Room access from 8^th Avenue. 8th Avenue SE will be fully opened by 5 a.m., Monday, October 24.

UPDATE: 12th Avenue Bridge Closure and Trail Detour

Effective Friday, September 30, the Cedar River Trail will be closed along the east side of the river between 8thAvenue and 16thAvenue SE, and will be temporarily detoured to 2ndStreet SE. Additionally, effective Tuesday, October 4, the 12^th Avenue Bridge over the Cedar River will be closed to all traffic between 2^nd Street SE and C Street SW for permanent flood control construction. Both will be effective until the spring of 2023.

51st Avenue NE Closure in 1800 Block

Effective immediately, Monday, September 26, the 1800 Block of 51^st Avenue NE is closed between Council Street and Center Point Road for roadway improvements. Access to Theisen's and other properties is being maintained. Work is expected to take approximately one (1) month.

1st Avenue W Traffic Impact Updates

• Effective Wednesday, September 7, 6th Street SW will open to traffic at 1st Avenue W; 6th Street NW will remain closed at 1st Avenue W. Northbound turns onto 6th Street NW will not be permitted from 1st Avenue W. Additionally, 3rd Street SW will open to northbound traffic between 2nd Avenue SW and 1st Avenue W.

• Starting Wednesday, September 6, 1st Street W will be closed to all traffic from 1st Avenue W to 2nd Avenue SW, and from 1st Avenue W to E Avenue NW, for permanent flood control construction. The closure is expected to be in place until fall of 2023. East/west traffic on 1st Avenue will be maintained.

This phase of permanent flood control construction includes relocating the 1st Avenue and 1st Street W intersection approximately 25 feet to the west to accommodate a future flood gate across 1st Avenue W. Additionally, 1st Street SW will be relocated westward, and 1st Street NW will be elevated over the top of the flood control system.

1st Avenue E Traffic Impacts

• Effective Friday, September 9, 1^st Street SE between 1st Avenue E and 2nd Avenue SE is restricted as the permanent flood control project continues. Additionally, 1^st Street NE has reopened between 1^st Avenue E and A Avenue NE.
• Effective Friday, September 9 at 5:30 a.m., traffic will shift to the two inside lanes and the outside lanes will close on 1st Avenue E / Marion Boulevard as Phase 2 begins of the 2022 Pavement Rehabilitation project. Traffic signal modifications at 1^st Avenue E and Collins Road NE will occur to accommodate the lane closures. Additionally, intersecting streets will be closed. This phase is expected to last three weeks, weather dependent.

Oakland Road NE Construction Update | September 30
Current traffic impacts:

• Oakland/Old Marion Road is closed from just north of Golf Street to just north of 42nd Street.
• The intersection of Old Marion Road and Golf Street is open.
• The intersection of Old Marion Road and 42nd Street is closed.
• Through traffic should follow the posted detours at Golf Street and F Avenue
• All businesses are open; traffic should follow the business access detours

Utility work including storm sewer and water main is nearly complete on Old Marion Road between Golf Street to just north of 42nd Street. Most of the roadway area has been prepared for paving, which is anticipated to occur next week. Upon completion of the roadway paving, sidewalks and driveways will be installed, followed by grading and sodding.

8th Avenue SW Intersection Closure

Weather permitting, beginning Monday, August 29^th, the intersection of 8^th Avenue and Rockford Road SW will be fully closed for utility work and pavement reconstruction. This closure is associated with the 8^th Avenue SW from 15^th St to Rockford Road Improvements project and is expected to be in place until the end of September. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained from streets adjacent to the closure. A signed detour will be posted.

Center Point Rd NE from Coe Rd to Lincoln Ave Construction Update | September 2

Current Traffic Impacts:

• Center Point Road continues to be reduced to one lane, southbound, with the work occurring in the left lane.
• F Avenue is closed on the east side at Center Point Road.

A Avenue NE Closure

Effective Monday, August 8, A Avenue NE will be closed between 10^th Street and 11^th Street for skywalk construction. Work is expected to take approximately six (6) months. Detour to be posted.

Tower Terrace Road NE Closure

Effective Monday, July 11, 2022, Tower Terrace Road NE will be closed between Center Point Road and Milburn Road for construction of the new I-380 interchange. Work is expected to take approximately four (4) months. Traffic to follow posted detour.

North Side Portion of Cedar Lake Trail Closed | October 26

The southern portion of Cedar Lake Trail was reopened Monday. The northern portion of the trail is now closed and will remain closed for approximately two years for construction of the flood control system. Click map showing closed section (red) and open section (green).
