LPD media release on RM 2243 rollover crash

11/14/2023 - On Nov. 12. 2023, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Leander Police officers responded to the 8600 block of RM 2243 for a report of a rollover collision with injuries. The initial investigation indicates a westbound Ford Excursion had a mechanical/tire related issue and crossed the double yellow center lane divider, striking an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado head on. The Silverado rolled off the roadway as a result of the collision. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Ford stayed on scene and spoke with officers. No charges have been filed at this time.

The deceased was identified as Ray Shillito Jr (W/M, 51) of Austin, Texas. Mr. Shillito was a current City of Austin employee with the Development Services Department's Code Compliance Team. Mr. Shillito had recently retired from the Austin Police Department.

The Leander Police Collision Reconstruction Team is continuing their investigation and reconstruction of this fatality collision. No other information is being released at this time,
