IAEA to present experiences of its emergency COVID-19 support at the 6th UN Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Forum

The IAEA and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will hold an online side event 'From COVID-19 Emergency Response to Integrated Action to Address Zoonotic Diseases' on the margins of the Sixth Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI Forum) for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The side event will share experiences from the IAEA's global COVID-19 emergency assistance activities, and will describe how these experiences have helped shape the subsequent Zoonotic Diseases Integrated Actioninitiative (ZODIAC). ZODIAC aims to enhance science-policy-society interactions by promoting collaborative research into outbreaks of zoonotic diseases, and supporting knowledge/data sharing to ensure universal access to solutions. Experts from national laboratories, the IAEA and the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture in Vienna, will take part in the side event.

The STI Forum, held from 4 to 5 May 2021, is convened by the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and organized by the UN Interagency Task Team on STI for the SDGs. The 2021 STI Forum focuses on 'Science, technology and innovation for a sustainable and resilient COVID-19 recovery, and effective pathways of inclusive action towards the Sustainable Development Goals'.

Date and time: Tuesday, 4 May 2021, 12:30 (New York time); 18:30 (Vienna time)
