Participants of the joint 81st- 84th Fellowship Programme now in Brussels

On 21 November 2022, the eight participants of the joint 81st - 84th Fellowship programme, intended for Spanish-speakers, were welcomed by the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Dr. Kunio Mikuriya at the WCO headquarters in Brussels. In his address, Secretary General Mikuriya encouraged them to make the most of their stay at the WCO Secretariat by acquiring new skills and expanding their professional network.

After a first part of the programme which had been delivered online in May 2021, the fellows came to Belgium to participate in a workshop dedicated to Leadership and Management Development from 21 November to 2 December 2022. This second part of the programme aimed at providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge for them to actively contribute to the development and modernization processes of their respective administrations.

This is an approach that focuses on modern personnel management, very much people-centered, while remaining highly demanding in terms of achievements and results. Through a series of interactive and introspective exercises, it aims at helping participants to better understand themselves and better interact with others.

The workshop also provides an ideal opportunity for the fellows to share their experiences, not only among themselves, but also with experts of the WCO Secretariat, thus enhancing their knowledge while building a strong professional network. The programme will conclude with the organization of a field trip, so fellows can observe operational practices within a partner Customs administration.

This joint edition of WCO Fellowship Programme was made possible thanks to the partnership and financial support of Japan Customs and the Ministry of Finance of South Korea. The Customs administrations from Cuba, Paraguay, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Morocco, Nicaragua and Panama, have participated this time in the programme.
