ON Semiconductor to Showcase Comprehensive Range

Demonstrating industry-leading imaging technologies and solutions to address increasing performance demands for a wide range of applications

SHANGHAI, China - March 15, 2019 - ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ON), driving energy efficient innovations, will demonstrate its wide range of intelligent image sensing solutions at this year's Vision China Exhibition to be held March 20-22 in Shanghai. Exhibits will include the company's X-Class image sensor platform, the KAI-50140 interline transfer CCD image sensor, AR0522 CMOS image sensors with Near Infra-Red+ (NIR+) technology, and the AR0234 CMOS digital image sensor.

With the needs of industrial imaging applications such as machine vision inspection and industrial automation continuing to advance, ON Semiconductor has been innovating in both the design and performance of image sensors to address this growing market, leveraging its industry-leading techniques and technologies.

ON Semiconductor's X-Class image sensor platform allows a single camera design to support not only multiple product resolutions, but also different pixel functionality. The XGS image sensors being showcased are the first devices in this platform, and provide advanced global shutter imaging with resolutions up to 12 megapixels (4096 x 3072 pixel). Their unique combination of high resolution, high frame rate, low-power, and 29 x 29 mm2 camera platform compatibility allow XGS devices to supply the imaging detail and performance needed for modern machine vision and inspection applications.

Designed specifically for inspection of modern smartphone displays, the KAI-50140 image sensor is a 50 MP Interline Transfer CCD in the 2.18:1 aspect ratio, matching the format of modern smartphones which can help to reduce the number of image captures required to inspect a full display. The 4.5 micrometer (µm) Interline Transfer CCD pixel used in the KAI-50140 provides high resolution with a true electronic global shutter while preserving critical imaging performance. It supports frame rates up to 3.9 frames per second (fps) through the use of a flexible one, two, or four output readout architecture, and shares the same pin definitions as the popular 29 MP KAI-29050, KAI-29052 and KAI-43140 image sensors.

As part of ON Semiconductor's high-performance rolling shutter portfolio, the AR0522 is available in both color and monochrome CFA options in an mPLCC package. It is a 1/2.5-inch 5.1 MP image sensor based on a 2.2 μm Back Side Illuminated (BSI) pixel technology platform, developed for industrial applications that require high resolution, high quality video capture in low light conditions. The AR0522 image sensor delivers approximately twice the sensitivity in the NIR+ wavelength versus the existing AR0521 image sensor.

Enabling the crisp image capture of moving objects in a wide range of lighting conditions, the AR0234 is a 1/2.6-inch 3.0 µm global shutter sensor which has exceptional shutter efficiency. The sensor includes sophisticated camera functions such as auto exposure control, windowing, row-skip mode, column−skip mode, pixel binning, and both video and single frame modes. It is programmable through a simple two−wire serial interface. The industry-leading shutter efficiency allows the AR0234 to produce extraordinarily clear, sharp digital pictures. Its ability to capture both continuous video and single frames make it the perfect choice for a wide range of applications including automotive in−cabin systems.

Dedicated to developing solutions to help drive lower system power and higher-performance image capture, ON Semiconductor will demonstrate the new technology of a new device with the ability to run a rolling shutter sensor at high-speed (360 fps) and at low-speed (1 fps), with less than 3 milliwatts (mW) power consumption.

For more innovative image sensing solutions, visit ON Semiconductor's booth (number 5226) in Hall W5 at Vision China, March 20-22 in Shanghai.

In addition, the company will address two imaging seminars on March 20. One will be from 10:30 to 11:00 themed Image Sensor Advances for Machine Vision Applications to be held in Hall OW8, while the other will be from 15:00 to 15:30 on SPAD Arrays for LiDAR Applications and held at meeting room M6, in Hall W4.
