UN-Habitat Boosts Nairobi County’s Environmental Efforts with Donation of Cleaning Tools: Director Paul Malawi Emphasizes Collaboration for a Cleaner City

Nairobi, 12th April 2024

Nairobi County Director in charge of Environment Mr. Paul Malawi has today received assorted environment cleaning tools from UN-Habitat at Uhuru Park.

The tools included 70 pairs gumboots, 70 pairs gloves, 30 pieces shovels, 20 pieces rakes, 20 hard brooms and 5 wheelbarrows.

Mr. Malawi said that Nairobi County appreciates UN-Habitat's partnership in complementing the County efforts in cleaning and greening the city. He promised that Environment department is working to ensure residents of Nairobi have access to a clean and health environment as envisioned in Chapter 4 of the Constitution.
"The tools we have received today will go a long way in boosting our numbers as we endeavor to clean Nairobi. I encourage Nairobians to take care of the environment. I urge Nairobi residents to take care of 10 metre radius of their premises as required by the Nairobi County Solid Waste." Mr. Malawi said.

Director Malawi added that the County looks forward to working with UN-Habitat in many other areas to achieve the dream of a cleaner and greener Nairobi.
Ms. Mercy Achieng from UN-Habitat (Under Solid Waste management) said the organization thought of doing something for the county to support its efforts in cleaning the city and more especially in informal settlements.

Mr. Malawi was accompanied by Deputy Director for Climate Change and Air Quality monitoring Mr. Maurice Kavai, Assistant Director Parks and Open Spaces Ms. Maureen Bett, Assistant Director Environmental Monitoring Compliance and Enforcement Mr. Lawrence Mwangi, Assistant Director Environmental Monitoring Compliance and Enforcement, Ms. Christine Kivuva, Chief Environment Officer in charge of Starehe Sub county Mr. Dancan Miheso and other sector staff.
