RCL Commemorates Naming Ceremony for Two New 12,000 TEUs Vessels at Shipyard in Japan

Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited (RCL) is proud to announce the successful naming ceremony of its two latest vessels, USSAMA BHUM and VARANYA BHUM on 27 August 2024. The prestigious ceremony took place at the Hiroshima Shipyard in Japan, marking another key milestone in RCL's fleet strategy.

The new vessels each boasting a capacity of 12,000 TEUs were constructed by Imabari Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. They exemplify RCL's commitment in enhancing its service quality and operational efficiency across global trade routes. Equipped with the latest advancements in maritime technology, these vessels reflect RCL's dedication to sustainable and efficient shipping practices.

The USSAMA BHUM, symbolises "Land of Genial" and VARANYA BHUM which stands for "Land of Brilliant" were respectively sponsored by Mrs Nisarat Trairatvorakul and Mrs Alia Sharaf. USSAMA BHUM was delivered and shortly thereafter set sail on her inaugural voyage, successfully entering service on RCL's Middle East route (RCG). while VARANYA BHUM is set to be delivered in December 2024.

Held on 27 August the ceremony was graced by several distinguished figures. Our Guest of Honour, Mr Prasarn Trairatvorakul, Independent Director and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee at Siam Cement Group Co. Ltd., was present with Mrs Nisarat Trairatvorakul. Mrs Alia Sharaf was accompanied by our guest of honour, Mr Salah Sharaf, Vice President of Sharaf Group (Dubai). Other notable attendees were Mr Sumate Tanthuwanit, Chairman of the Executive Committee of RCL; Dr Twinchok Tanthuwanit, President of RCL; Mr Bhumindr Harinsuit, Managing Director of Harinsuit Transport; and Mr Mukesh Oza, Director at RCL Agencies (India) Private Limited.

The ceremony was led by Dr Jamlong Atikul, Chairman of RCL, who underscored the strategic importance of these new additions to the company's fleet. He also expressed his pride in RCL's ongoing fleet expansion, stating "The naming of USSAMA BHUM and VARANYA BHUM represents not just the growth of our fleet but also the ongoing evolution of our services. These vessels will strengthen our capabilities, ensuring that we continue to meet the demands of our global clientele with the utmost efficiency and sustainability." The addition of these vessels stands as a testament to RCL's strategic growth plans and its unwavering commitment to excellence in the maritime industry.
