Meeting with members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation

Foreign Minister Diana Mondino met with the Heads of Mission of Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Nigeria, Morocco, Türkiye and Pakistan, member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) accredited in Buenos Aires. The Deputy Foreign Minister, Leopoldo Sahores, and the Secretary of Worship, Francisco Sánchez, also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, reference was made to the importance that both the Foreign Ministry and the OIC attach to the fight against intolerance, negative stereotypes, stigmatization, discrimination, incitement to violence and violence against people for reasons of religion or beliefs.

Minister Mondino highlighted that Argentina recognizes the broadest respect for religious freedom and cultural diversity and agreed with her counterparts on the need to strongly condemn the scourge of Islamophobia, as well as all forms of discrimination based on religion, ethnicity, or nationality.

Likewise, there was agreement on the deep concern about the current situation of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, especially children.

The OIC was established in 1969 as a forum to gather the voice of the Muslim world. Its headquarters are in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It currently has 57 member countries.
