DE BEERS CANADA EMPLOYEE AMONG 100...

De Beers Canada long serving employee, Pamela Cook Ellemers has been named one of 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining (WIM100) by Women in Mining UK (WIM UK).

Cook Ellemers, who is the Principal Mineral Resource Manager - Canada for De Beers Group Technical & Sustainability, is the only De Beers Group employee and one of nine Canadian women featured on this year's list. WIM UK publishes the list every two years to celebrate women's contribution to the mining industry and identifies inspirational role models to encourage future generations of women to consider mining as a career choice.

In 2022, WIM UK received 915 nominations for 491 women from 61 countries.

Pamela's career in the mining industry has spanned more than 30 years, beginning in remote field camps in Northern Canada during the NWT diamond rush of the early 1990s.

She has held a variety of leadership roles within exploration, laboratory services, technology development and mineral resource management within the De Beers Group across Canada and South Africa including work in Australia, Brazil, Botswana, and India. Over the course of her career, she has been involved in the discovery and/or evaluation of eight kimberlite clusters in Canada and was the De Beers Competent Person for Resources for six different properties: Gahcho Kué, Victor and Snap Lake Mines, as well as the Tango Extension, Attawapiskat and Chidliak projects.

"I am filled with gratitude for the many mentors, sponsors and colleagues who I have learned from, innovated with and who have inspired me over my years with De Beers. I am also thankful for all of the opportunities provided to me by De Beers to work in different places and to experience many different cultures."

She says she is grateful to her family for their support and inspiration. "My husband Kent and our two beautiful boys Vaughn and Logan inspire me each and every day to be my best self. In addition, to my passion for geology and earth science, I am passionate about early talent, about diversifying our industry and about removing barriers for those who are underrepresented in the mining industry and in our company."

In addition to her technical leadership role in Mineral Resource Management, Pamela has volunteered to lead the Accelerating Equal Opportunity pillar of the De Beers Group Building Forever strategy in Canada and the Inclusion and Diversity working group. The pillar is focused on enabling an inclusive workplace and increasing women's representation in technical disciplines across De Beers in Canada. In the community, she is a member of the Dean's Advisory Circle for the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta and is a founding member and President of the Women in Mining Calgary Chapter which was formed in 2021.

Each of the WIM100 is profiled in a book published online. In a press release announcing the selections, Dr. Stacy Hope, Managing Director at WIM UK, said,

"I hope this book inspires systemic changes at organizations so that women are given the space and support to succeed and that governments will make legislative reforms that make a career in mining more appealing to women. I also hope this book will shed light on the ever-changing narrative of the mining sector - one that is evolving and proving vital to a sustainable future - and offers inspiration to young people, who may, one day, become part of the future talent pipeline the industry desperately needs. The mining industry will be more resilient, stronger and, ultimately, more successful if we continue to hire, promote and empower women."
