National Kidney Month: Get Tested At Home

March is National Kidney Month. In August 2023, as part of In-home Health Evaluations (IHEs), Signify Health announcedthe launch of a comprehensive kidney health evaluation to support the early detection, diagnosis, and management of kidney disease for eligible health plan members.

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) impacts an estimated 37 millionU.S. adults. If undiagnosed, CKD can progress to kidney failure and early cardiovascular disease. Diagnostic test results help health plans improve quality performance, impact member satisfaction and assist members and their primary care providers to determine the best plan for management and treatment. By offering screenings in the home, Signify Health makes preventive and diagnostic screening tests more readily accessible for health plans and their members.

Signify Health clinicians perform a comprehensive kidney health evaluation that uses both a urine albumin-creatinine ratio (uACR) test and an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) blood test. Results of the kidney health evaluation, provide health plan members' primary care providers and members with information to help determine the treatment and management plan that is best for them including:

  • Additional testing
  • Improved lifestyle changes
  • Pharmacological treatment
  • Avoiding exposure to conditions that may affect kidney function

Keeping your kidneys healthy starts with taking good care of your health by staying hydrated and eating a well-balanced diet. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is one of the top ways to lower your risk of developing CKD. If you have diabetes or hypertension, keeping your sugar or blood pressure well controlled also will help protect your kidneys.
