Trans Visibility & Affirmation Week at UAA

The Student Activities and Pride Center teams are facilitating this week-long campaign to uplift and affirm trans and gender-expansive students, staff and faculty at UAA. March 31 is Trans Day of Visibility; it's an annual nation-wide celebration and this year we want to broaden engagement and invite the larger UAA community to join us in celebrating trans and gender-expansive identities. See below for ways to participate.

How to Participate

Participating will not take much of your time. We welcome you to submit an affirming message to the trans community using this Google form; it can be a few words or a longer story. Submissions will be moderated and affirming messages will be shared back anonymously via this viewable document, throughout the week on social media, and shared during a trans-affinity space at the end of the week. In addition to sharing loving messages, we invite you to download and display these trans-affirming campaign graphics, and bring these affirming practices into conversations with your colleagues.

Reason for the Campaign

At UAA, we want trans students, staff and faculty to feel safe. At a time when trans people are enduring heightened violence, persistent anti-trans oppression and countless legislative attempts at erasure, the need for radical acceptance is great and we hope this campaign can help to facilitate it. We want trans students, staff and faculty to experience a reprieve from the violence, to feel included instead of erased and to be whole-heartedly supported by a community instead of tolerated.

Additional Opportunity for Trans & Gender Expansive Folks

All trans students, staff and faculty are invited to "Being Trans", an affinity event focused on uplifting the experiences, stories and joy of trans people. This event is part of the Being Series, and its intentional focus is on creating space for trans and gender expansive people to connect through the sharing of personal experiences of being trans with others of that identity. The event is at the culmination of this campaign on March 29 at 12-2 p.m. in the UAA Pride Center.
