The City of Portland's Bureau of Development Services is excited to announce significant improvements to their application process for New Single-Family Residences (NSFR) and New Detached Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) permits, set to roll out on April 25th!

The City of Portland's Bureau of Development Services is continually striving to enhance their services and make the permitting application process as smooth and efficient as possible for our community and customers. With this commitment in mind, BDS is excited to announce significant improvements to our application process for New Single-Family Residences (NSFR) and New Detached Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) permits, set to roll out on April 25^th!

Streamlining the Application Process

We understand that time is of the essence when it comes to new construction projects. Therefore, we have streamlined our application process to reduce unnecessary steps and make it more customer friendly. Our updated application will guide you through the intake process with clear and concise instructions, ensuring a more efficient and straightforward experience.

Introducing Conditional Logic

One of the most innovative features of our new application process is the use of conditional logic. This technology will tailor the application form to a customer's specific NSFR or new detached ADU project requirements, presenting customers with only the relevant questions and eliminating confusion or ambiguity. By adapting to a project's unique characteristics, we can ensure a more accurate and customized application, saving customers' valuable time and effort.

Improved Assistance and Transparency

To better assist customer, we have enhanced our help text within the application form, providing more detailed explanations and guidance for each section. Our aim is to demystify the application process and empower customers with the knowledge and resources they need to succeed.

Incomplete Applications

BDS is in the process of contacting customers with incomplete NSFR and/or new detached ADU applications to complete their applications by the end of business on Wednesday, April 24^th. Incomplete applications still in the old process will be removed and need to be restarted using the new enhanced application process on April 25^th. For customers not far along in their application, we highly recommend that customers wait a few more days and restart their application using our new process, which will be easier and more intuitive to use.
