O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center hosts “American Symphony: Become a lifesaver”

A bone marrow donor registration and a panel discussion will be available to all attendees before the screening of the documentary.

Join the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the National Marrow Donor Program for a free screening event of the 2023 documentary "American Symphony" on Sunday, April 28, at the Alys Stephens Center.

The documentary tells the story of bestselling author and cancer survivor Suleika Jaouad and her musician husband, Jon Batiste, as they face her leukemia recurrence and second bone marrow transplant.

Before the screening, there will be a panel discussion that will focus on growing the national donor registry for blood stem cells and blood marrow, in addition to improving access to transplants.

A bone marrow donor registration drive will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the panel discussion at 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m., the evening will end with the documentary screening. Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available.
