Schneider Supports House National Security Funding Bills

WASHINGTON - Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement in support of the three recently introduced security funding bills that will provide aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan:

"I am pleased that Speaker Johnson is finally standing up to the extremists, isolationists and rejectionists in his party and is bringing forth a responsible legislative package to provide urgently needed assistance for our allies in Ukraine and Israel as they fight existential wars of survival, and to support Taiwan.

I am also grateful that Speaker Johnson has rightly included humanitarian assistance to help ensure our allies not only defeat their enemies but are also able to lay the groundwork for long-term security, prosperity and sustainable peace.

As they say, better late than never. But it would have been better had Congress acted when President Biden made his initial funding request last year. At the very least, the House should have immediately taken up the Senate version of the essential national security funding bill when it passed that chamber more than two months ago-or certainly acted this past Monday after Iran's unprecedented April 13 attack on Israel.

It's unfortunate that it took a brazen attack from Iran on our most important ally in the Middle East to wake Republican leadership up to the existential threats facing both Israel and Ukraine, and the dire risks Russia, Iran and China pose to our nation's interests and the rules-based international order."
