Welcome to the St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit 172nd Annual Highland Games!

St. Andrew's Society of Detroit was founded in 1849 by a small group of Scottish men. The original group was dedicated to helping fellow Scots assimilate to their new surroundings. We are proud to be Michigan's oldest benevolent society.

Today, our Society extends its helpful hand to many local charities as well as organizations in Scotland. Monies raised at the Highland Games are donated to individuals in need as well as charitable groups. The Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The focal point of our year is the sharing of the Highland Games with the community. Not only can the Society brag that we host the oldest Games in North America, we can state that its Games are put on entirely by volunteers. Members of the Society, their spouses and friends are the volunteers you see here today.

Membership in the St. Andrew's Society is open to anyone with Scottish heritage. General membership meetings are held monthly ten times a year. Summer months are devoted to preparing for the Highland Games.

OUR BENEVOLENCES
Proceeds from our Highland Games support our mission to provide assistance to fellow Scots and other
charitable organizations as well as to encourage the love of Scotland through its history, customs, music,
literature, and national games. Below is a list of benevolences we supported in the last several years.
