The game started off well for Illinois College. knocked home a short jumper and canned a three to make it 5-0 with just over a minute gone. The game shifted suddenly as Cornell reeled off 14 straight points in less than three minutes to go on top by nine and a couple minutes more went by before IC was able to break its drought.
The Blueboys trailed by as much as 11 in the first half, but rallied to tie the score at 37-37 when hit a three-pointer in the final two minutes of the half. Cornell managed to take a 42-39 lead into the break.
A Marcus Quirk three-pointer in the opening minute of the second half put the Rams ahead by four, 45-41, but from there the Blueboys went on an 11-0 run courtesy of Robinson III and . Cornell managed one last push and went ahead with less than 13 minutes to play, but the 61-60 lead that the Rams enjoyed turned into an 81-65 deficit as the Blueboys soon began to score on almost every single trip down the floor.
The closest Cornell would get from there was 88-76 with less than four minutes left, but Illinois College responded with consecutive three-pointers from Jowett and to put the game away.
Mazrimas led Illinois College with game highs of 25 points and 14 rebounds. Five other players scored in double-figures for the Blueboys, including all four other starters. had 15 points and nine assists. Dian had 11 and both Robinson III and added 10. Jowett scored 14 points off the bench.
Illinois College returns to non-conference play in two weeks, taking a trip to the Chicago area for matchups with two CCIW programs. First up is a Dec. 20 game at North Park University at 7 p.m., followed by a game at Elmhurst College on Dec. 22 at 4 p.m.
