Newton Public Library Wins STEM Award for Turing Tumble Program

Our Youth Services Librarian, Phyllis Peter, has won the STEM Scale-Up Program for Turing Tumble after competing with over 160 applicants. The award includes training to conduct the program and materials to hold it. Phyllis is planning to implement the program in the Fall of 2024.

Turing Tumble is a groundbreaking STEM game that teaches the fundamental workings of computers. Students use their hands to build marble-powered, mechanical computers and solve structured logic puzzles. Unlike screen-based programs, Turing Tumble offers an engaging graphic novel woven through the puzzle book, making it look like a fun marble run. It is the first STEM curriculum solution that allows students to understand how a computer works by seeing, hearing, feeling, and programming a mechanical computer. With Turing Tumble, students learn to use logic to solve problems while discovering how coding works and building their confidence in computational thinking. Phyllis Peter and the Newton Public Library are thrilled to host this program!
