Sanremese Football Club unveils stadium design and urban redevelopment plans

Sanremese Football Club has unveiled its project plan for the redevelopment of the Sanremo Municipal Stadium, which will become the Sanremo Arena in Liguria, Italy. Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, is leading urban, structural, environmental, energy, hydraulic, and traffic management design, while Giraldi Associati Architetti is in charge of architectural design. The consulting firm Nobel Partners Advisory S.r.l. will handle the economic and financial planning of the project.

The stadium, opened in 1932, has long been part of Sanremo's identity. The project design will transform the stadium into a multipurpose space and an arena used for events and demonstrations, with food courts, gathering spaces, and services for residents. The stadium currently seats 1,250 spectators, which will be increased to an indoor seating capacity of 6,500 and 13,000 spectators during events and concerts. A semitransparent retractable roof will provide shelter. The design will also integrate innovative and sustainable energy technologies, including approximately 550 kilowatts of photovoltaic and geothermal energy.

The project also includes redevelopment of the surrounding urban area, which will create new green areas with pedestrian paths and rest areas, and new parking areas equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles. The entire project area will cover a total area of more than 22,000 square meters, or 5.5 acres.

"We are proud to be part of this project, which shows an innovative vision sensitive to the needs of the area," said Emiliano Patanè, Stantec project manager. "Our company has a lot of international experience in the design of multipurpose sports facilities, and we know how much this type of intervention can contribute to raising the quality of life of host communities."

"This is an important and necessary project for the City of Sanremo, which our studio tackles with enthusiasm," said Fulvio Giraldi of Giraldi Associati Architetti. "This design will restore dignity and identity to a place that will not only be used for sports events but create a place that belongs to all citizens and that will become a new iconic symbol of the city."

The new Arena Sanremo will not only be the home of Sanremese and sports fans but a multipurpose space well integrated into the community, with an energy sustainable system powered by photovoltaic panels and with rainwater collection and reuse systems, and a space that all citizens will be able to enjoy.
