PRESS RELEASE BY THE OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER The Ambassador of Finland pays a farewell call on the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives

The outgoing Ambassador of Finland, Ms Pia Rantala-Engberg, paid a farewell visit on Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives David Agius. The Ambassador's term as Finland's Ambassador to Malta will come to an end shortly.​​

The Deputy Speaker thanked the Ambassador for her service during her term as Finland's Ambassador to Malta and augured her the best in her future endeavours. Agius recalled the positive bilateral relations that exist between Malta and Finland and reiterated that Malta looks forward to further enhanced cooperation both within the European Union as well as on the international agenda particularly in the context of Malta's non-permanent member on the United Nations Security Council.

Specifically on trade, education and culture, the Deputy Speaker stressed the importance of exploring avenues of commercial cooperation between both countries aimed at bringing about increased interaction between respective commercial entities. He noted that the tourist traffic between Malta and Finland is gradually returning to its pre-pandemic levels and encouraged the promotion of soft diplomacy to increase understanding between respective peoples.

The Ambassador agreed that the relationship between Malta and Finland has always been positive. She thanked the Deputy Speaker and the Maltese authorities for their endless support during her term as Finland's Ambassador to Malta.
