Soca Artist Nailah Blackman Shares Her Favorite Things About Trinidad and Tobago

This year, SiriusXM and Pandora are excited about celebrating our first cobranded series Island Time - a newly developed docuseries getting to know all Caribbean talents and the islands they're from.

With Trinidad and Tobago Carnival here, what better way to launch the series than with our first Island Time episode featuring Soca artist Nailah Blackman.

During this episode, Nailah shares what it was like growing up in a family of musicians, the evolution of Soca music, the uniqueness of Trinidadian and Tobagonian music, her favorite Trini food, and how her mom inspires her songs.

Nailah's been doing music since she was just 4 and wrote her first song at age 11! Since then, she has continued to push out a continuous portfolio of Soca music rooting from her culture.

"My music kind of paints an exact picture of where I'm from, because a lot of my music is either happy or sensual or festive or high-energy … All those things are descriptions that I would use to paint Trinidad and Tobago, because they're all of the above. It's extremely beautiful, extremely rich with culture and history," she explained.

Get to know more about Nailah, Soca music, Trinidad and Tobago, and Carnival in the Island Time video below.

Plus, check out her latest album Teknique, and hits by other Soca artists, throughout the week on Bob Marley's Tuff Soca channel on the SXM App and One Caribbean on Pandora.
