City Seeks Input on Highway 421 Study

The City's Economic Development Office is seeking public input on a draft Highway 421 Land Use Study, which is now available for review at www.greensboro-nc.gov/Highway421Study.

Share your thoughts on the plan by taking a brief online survey at www.greensboro-nc.gov/Highway421Survey. Deadline to take the survey is 5 pm Thursday, April 18.

The study, conducted by Freese and Nichols Inc., provides guidance for development along the Highway 421 corridor and future land use in the area. A detailed assessment of the existing conditions was conducted to identify issues and opportunities.

Key aspects of the draft study are the future use of properties north of the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite and maximization of job creation in the area, especially in related technology and automotive manufacturing industries.

"A team effort created what we hope will be a useful guide for thoughtful decision-making related to future development in the Hwy. 421 Corridor, thanks to the Economic Development Administration (EDA)," said City Economic Development Manager Marshall Yandle.

In August 2022, the City received a federal Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant from the EDA to help fund the study in support of economic growth spurred by the Toyota electric vehicle battery plant at the megasite.

"It is important that we balance the City's investment in water and sewer infrastructure with the need for future economic development sites and housing, while not forgetting community amenities on the corridor, and this study accounts for those different needs in our community," Yandle said.
