Meeks, McCaul Demand Putin Be Held Accountable for Alexey Navalny's Health and Safety in Russian Prison

Washington, D.C. Today, Representative Gregory W. Meeks and Michael McCaul, Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after reports of Alexey Navalny's deteriorating health while he remains wrongfully imprisoned in Russia.

'Alexey Navalny is languishing in a Russian prison for nothing other than courageously exposing Vladimir Putin's corruption, opposing his authoritarian rule, and seeking to exercise his democratic rights under the Russian constitution. For Putin, who maintains power through corruption and ruthless repression of any dissent, Navalny's actions are an existential threat. The free world must not stand silently by. With a unified voice we demand Navalny receive proper medical care and vow to hold Putin accountable for Navalny's health and safety while he remains wrongfully imprisoned.'
