For the second consecutive year, Yle is organizing a campaign with the goal of collecting trash from nature equivalent to a million trash bags. This year, the campaign focuses on building a sustainable plastic relationship, encouraging plastic recycling, and mobilizing project participants to independently collect trash in their local areas. Let's contribute our share to the goal of a million trash bags: 100 trash bags through the University of Jyväskylä! The campaign ends on 5.5.2024.

How do I participate?

Anyone can take part in the campaign. You can collect rubbish alone or together. The University of Jyväskylä organises the litter-picking events. More information about the events will be announced later. The most active collectors will be rewarded.

It is very easy to participate:

  • You only need gloves and an empty trash bag.

  • Go outside - alone or with other people.

  • Pick up litter in your area.

  • Once the bag is full, put it in a waste container.

  • Go to the webpage at https://forms.office.com/e/aqpK97w9WD and enter the number of bags where you picked up the litter.

  • Challenge your friends to participate!

  • The campaign will contain a number of social media posts. Share your own post by the project partners. Use tags in social media: #KestäväMuovisuhde, #Miljoonaroskapussia, #plastlife, #muovitiekartta and @uniofjyvaskyla.

Together, we can prevent litter and raise awareness of the importance of recycling plastics. Spend a nice and refreshing moment with your work community. Let's collect plastic rubbish together!

The sustainable circular economy of plastics

The University of Jyväskylä is involved in an extensive cooperation project to promote the circular economy of plastics. PlastLIFE SIP is a 7-year project (2023-2029) coordinated by the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE and funded by the EU LIFE Programme, the consortium partners (17 partners), and other national organizations. PlastLIFE SIP promotes the implementation of the Plastics Roadmap for Finland, aiming to reduce littering and other negative impacts of plastics, refuse unnecessary consumption of plastics, increase the recycling of all kinds of plastics, and replace fossil plastics with biobased materials and/or other solutions.
