HONOLULU, Jan. 20, 2022 - Hawaiian Electric will be replacing overhead power lines Monday, Jan. 24, in Kailua that will limit access to Lanikai and Kailua Beach Park from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The utility pole replacement and other work being done this week and on Monday is part of the city's intersection improvement program. The public can expect the following impacts:

Monday, Jan. 24: Lane closures in both directions of Kailua Road and South Kalaheo Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Only local traffic will be allowed. As crews replace power lines near the Kalapawai roundabout, there will be no access into Lanikai and Kailua Beach Park. Motorists are asked to avoid the area or plan for delays and traffic stoppages.

Through Friday (Jan. 20 & 21): Crews continue to work 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to relocate utility poles, overhead lines and related electrical equipment near the intersection of Kailua Road and South Kalaheo Avenue, between Kuulei Road and Kailua Beach Park. A single-lane closure is required in the work areas.

Electronic message boards, safety signs and traffic cones will alert drivers ahead of the work zones. Flagmen and special duty police will provide onsite traffic control. Motorists are asked to slow down when approaching and passing the work zones, plan for traffic delays or use alternative routes.
