EM Employees Collect, Donate 253,500 Pounds of Food for People in Need

WASHINGTON, D.C.- EMled DOE's Feds Feed Families(FFF) summer campaign this year by collecting and donating nearly 253,500 pounds of items for food banks and pantries to help people facing food insecurity across the U.S.

DOE was the second-highest contributing federal agency to the drive held by federal employees across the U.S., collecting and donating more than 327,350 pounds of food.

"It is inspiring to see federal employees come together to address food insecurity and help those in our communities facing difficult times," EM Senior Advisor William "Ike" White said. "My hope is that the EM team will continue raising awareness about food insecurity and increasing access to healthy foods in our communities."

White noted that EM's mission is more than demolishing buildings and remediating contamination.

"While our work provides environmental benefits, EM's mission also enables safe and sustainable futures for our host communities and advances broader Biden Administration goals that are closely aligned to our mission," White said. "Our commitment is to position communities for the future as cleanup progress sets the stage for enduring growth."

Although the summer campaign ended Sept. 30, employees can contribute to the drive throughout the year. Summer is particularly challenging for nearly 30 million children who receive free and reduced-price meals during the school year.

There are several ways for federal employees to get involved and contribute to families and communities in need, from donating to a food bank or food pantry online or in person to volunteering time and recording their service.
