Grassley, Shaheen Raise Awareness for Victims of Sexual Violence

WASHINGTON -To close out National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) are leading a bipartisan resolution encouraging support for sexual assault survivors and advocates and highlighting preventative measures to help reduce sexual violence.

"Far too many Americans have suffered physical and psychological trauma as a result of sexual assault," Grassley said. "We must make certain these brave survivors know they are not alone in their struggle. I commend the work of victim advocates, health officials and law enforcement who provide critical care to victims and help to prevent others from suffering these ugly crimes."

"This month and every month, we must do all we can to stand with survivors of sexual assault. I'm proud to help introduce a bipartisan resolution to highlight the difficult but critical work that victim advocates, public safety, law enforcement and health professionals do on a daily basis to respond to and prevent sexual violence. We are grateful for their tireless work to ensure that survivors across the United States have the services they need to heal," said Shaheen.

Millions of Americans suffer from sexual violence every year. Approximately one in four women and one in ten men experience sexual assault at some point in their lives. Sexual assault can take many forms, occurring in person or online, and is most often committed by someone the victim knows. If you or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, help is available.
