Chairwoman Stabenow On Key Efforts in 2021 to Address the Climate Crisis through the Department of Agriculture

01.18.22

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, welcomed Secretary Vilsack's statement on USDA's work to combat climate change using the resources provided through the 2018 Farm Bill, the American Rescue Plan Act, and other legislation. Chairwoman Stabenow has been vocal about the vital role farmers continue to play in addressing the climate crisis. She championed legislation to provide more assistance and clarity for farmers to engage in climate-smart agriculture, strengthen our wildfire response and improve forest health, increase our agricultural research capabilities, and boost resources for rural communities.

"This is all about getting the tools to fight the climate crisis into the hands of farmers, ranchers and foresters who are on the front lines," said Senator Stabenow. "Addressing extreme weather conditions and keeping our food supply and natural resources safe is one of my top priorities as Chair of the committee. Secretary Vilsack and his team have been amazing partners in this work and have made sure that the resources Congress passed are getting to the right place."
