Join friends, family and neighbors at Park Glen Elementary on National Bike to School Day, Wednesday, May 8. This special event, organized by the Fort Worth Transportation & Public Works Department, encourages students and their families to bike to school on this day.

National Bike to School Day is an initiative that promotes the benefits of cycling, including physical health, mental well-being and environmental sustainability.

Why it matters: National Bike to School Day is an annual event held across the country to celebrate and promote bicycling as a fun and feasible mode of transportation to school. It aims to foster a lifelong love of cycling among children, improve traffic safety, and reduce environmental impacts associated with motor vehicle use near schools.

Go deeper: Biking to school is not only a delightful way for children to start their day but also an excellent opportunity to teach them about road safety, bike maintenance and navigating their neighborhoods. Moreover, it helps in reducing traffic congestion and air pollution, creating a healthier environment for everyone in the community. Participating in such events also strengthens community connections and provides a chance for parents, teachers and local leaders to engage positively with students.

The Fort Worth Transportation & Public Works Department supports this initiative by ensuring safe and accessible routes for all participants. On the day of the event, department representatives will be on hand to provide safety tips, fun activities and information on ongoing and future projects aimed at improving bicycling infrastructure in Fort Worth.
