For many of us, lockdown has been a chance to clear out those wardrobes, but figuring out what to do with old clothes doesn't need to be a chore. Why not use it as a chance to flex your creativity, as well as embracing sustainable fashion?
Those with a flair for fashion, like making new clothes, trying a new hobby, or want to lead a less wasteful lifestyle can look to Issy, aka @handmade.byissy. A fashionista who knows how to take her granddad's old shirt and turn it into something worthy of a catwalk!
Issy has developed a strong following, for using her sewing skills to breathe new life into old clothes. Whether it is recyling old clothes into new styles or making tote bags with old dresses to even creating halterneck tops with old fleeces or making bespoke greetings cards with offcuts there's loads to learn from her make do and mend attitude.
So forget shopping, why not try upcycling clothes, like Issy, as a way to get rid of old clothes?
We wanted to hear more about how Issy got into upcycling and recycling old clothes, so we sat down with her to find out more in our latest TikTok Creator Spotlight....
What do you love most about TikTok?
I love how easy it is to find out new information about all sorts of topics.
Why is TikTok right for your content?
TikTok works well for me because I can make quick summaries of a long process and make it easy to understand and digestible, like making a top for example.
What is your favourite effect?
My favourite effect is green screen because it's easy to add other images to my videos.
What is your goal on TikTok?
My goal is to make every video fun to watch, and have a non-judgemental space where everyone is welcome to express themselves.
Who do you follow on TikTok - and why? / What is on your TikTok feed?
I love following artists, designers or people that make me laugh. Some of my favourites are @joejurkiewicz, @evamalleyart and @peachykreen. My feed is quite varied, but I'd say I'm definitely on the 'feminist side' of TikTok!
What is your favourite TikTok you have made to date and why?
My favourite video so far is the one where I up-cycled my grandads shirt, he always used to joke and say one day I'd make him famous!
What kick started your passion for fashion and photography?
When I was little I loved art, but found school really hard. My textiles teacher really encouraged me, and when I found out more about sustainable fashion, I just knew that's what I was passionate about.
