Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Names Monica Auciello as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel

CHICAGO - Monica Auciello, an experienced attorney and leader in the health care industry, has been named chief legal officer and general counsel for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), effective April 15.

"Monica's leadership will help BCBSA effectively navigate this increasingly complex time in health care," said Kim Keck, BCBSA's chief executive officer. "Her deep business understanding paired with her legal expertise and knowledge of public policy, regulatory issues and compliance will support our continued competitive success."

In her role, Auciello will lead and oversee BCBSA's legal functions, including contracts, compliance, litigation, risk management and brand management. Auciello will also provide operational and reputational guidance to BCBSA and Blue Cross Blue Shield plan senior leadership.

Prior to joining the Association, Auciello served as vice president, general counsel and chief compliance and risk officer of Sidecar Health Insurance Company, which focuses on building a consumer-oriented approach to health insurance while driving affordability, accessibility and transparency for consumers.

Auciello also held positions as senior vice president of legal affairs and policy and general counsel at Blue Cross Blue & Shield of Rhode Island and assistant general counsel and privacy officer at BlueCross and BlueShield of Vermont.

Auciello holds a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from the University of Southern Maine and a law degree from Vermont Law School.
