The Maldives becomes a full member of OACPS 09 December 2022

The Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) on Friday admitted the Maldives as its newest full member.

The member states of OACPS endorsed the decision to accept the Maldives' application to become a full member of the organisation at the 10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of OACPS in Luanda, Angola.

During the Summit being held from 6-9 December, the Maldives became the newest member of OACPS with unanimous support from all its Member States. The Maldives' delegation attending the summit is headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid (ODRI), as the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Following the endorsement of the Maldives' membership, the Maldives acceded to the Revised Georgetown Agreement of the OACPS, which outlines all the obligations required of its member states. The Foreign Minister deposited the Instrument of Accession at a ceremony held today on the summit's sidelines.

The Maldives applied to become a full member of OACPS in November 2021. Following this, the People's Majlis approved the Maldives' application bid on March 23, 2022. The OACPS then granted the Maldives "Observer Status" in June 2022.
