As of Friday, April 19, 2024 the gravel roads ban has been updated to be in effect at 75% axle weight 24 hours a day on all gravel roads.
The City of Grande Prairie begins gravel road bans on Friday, March 15, 2024 restricting travel on all gravel roads within City limits.
All gravel roads will be at 75% axle weight between the hours of 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Gravel road bans are a standard practice for the City, aimed at protecting gravel roads in the region. The City of Grande Prairie may issue road bans during construction, regular maintenance, or due to special seasonal circumstances such as spring melt or above-average weather conditions.
The list of affected roads are as follows:
"We appreciate the cooperation of the public as we limit the weight capacity of these roads. It is critical that we make these adjustments during the spring thaw to preserve the structural integrity of our gravel road network," said Wade Nellis, City of Grande Prairie's Director of Transportation Services.
