Ayia Nappa Opens for Boats
Ayia Nappa, Cyprus - 7 August 2020 - The long-held vision of Cypriot Gerry Caramondani, in partnership with Naguib Sawiris, a prominent investor from Egypt, has become a reality with the opening of a 600 slip marina, drystack and the arrival of the first boats in February 2020. Ayia Nappa Marina is approximately 45-minutes east of Larnaca International Airport and 70 minutes from Limassol. The marina is located near the Mediterranean resort town Ayia Nappa, a world-famous holiday destination known for its beaches on the southeast coast of Cyprus.
The marina, built by Bellingham Marine, features full-service finger berthing that provides greater access and ease of mooring for boats up to 30m as well as full-service berthing options for boats up to 65m. "This iconic marina will become the standard that other marinas in the Mediterranean aspire to meet," says John Spragg, Bellingham Marine's President of Australasia and the Middle East, "Once boaters use the finger mooring system, they will demand it elsewhere."
Ayia Nappa Marina is equipped with abundant power and water to support its residents and guests, including ample floating fuel facilities (www.metka-egn.com) outfitted with hi-speed diesel dispensers. There are reticulated sewer pump outs to several berths and more than adequate pump out connections through-out the marina. Tom Spragg, Bellingham Marine's project manager, remarked, "While the project had its challenges including a COVID-19 lockdown and casting in Cyprus, the quality is as you would find on any Bellingham project and there seems to be enough power for a large town." Under Tom's direction, the team cast almost 1,200 pontoons with an estimated total area of 12,410 square metres. The Bellingham system allows access by golf cart to most berths if required." Tom noted, "The four-level Drystack can take powerboats up to 10m in length with launching and retrieval using a negative lift, purpose manufactured forklift. There is also a Straddle Carrier capable of lifting 150 tons and boats up to 36m in length in the maintenance area."
The Marina is protected from the powerful Mediterranean storms by a system utilizing rock, concrete and rubble mound breakwater designed by Smith Group JJR from the US. The detailed engineering for the marina was by IMC from Brisbane Australia, and Bellingham Caramondani in Cyprus manufactured and installed the marina, while the service units provided from Plus.
The marina is part of a premier luxury residential marina complex made of two breathtaking residential towers that provide magnificent views of the marina and the local landscape. With a total of 220 apartments, 11 Beach Villas, 12 Island Villas built on an island connected by road bridge in the marina basin as well as 6 Peninsula Villas with private berthing in the marina basin. There is a Yacht Club onsite for public dining, a Commercial Hub with shopping, cafes and restaurants, a Harbour Master Building, and Government Buildings with Police and Customs offices.
