Frostburg Once Again Extends Decision Day Deadline from May 15 to June 1

The U.S. Department of Education revised its Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) last year to simplify the application process and to help more students qualify for federal aid, but since its release in December, technical issues associated with the updated form have caused significant delays for colleges to receive student information.

Given continued delays in receiving FAFSA information, Frostburg's Decision Day deadline is once again being extended, from May 15 to June 1. The additional extension will allow students more time to consider their aid offer before submitting confirmation deposits and will give FSU and the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) time to post the most accurate and secure award packages possible.

"We have a high number of students who depend on federal and state aid to afford college. We know affording college is an important part of the decision for students and families. We want them to have some time to evaluate the total cost," said acting president, Al Delia. "May is expected to bring needed FAFSA data reprocessing and increased access for Financial Aid staff to be able to help families with corrections, verification, and overrides."

It is important to note that FAFSA delays don't mean a student's aid will be rescinded or reduced. In fact, if students are eligible for federal aid under the new FAFSA, that aid, in its full amount, will be forthcoming.

FSU's Admissions Office is always available to help students make the best choice for themselves and their families. Anyone with questions should reach out at [email protected]or call or text 301-835-2528.
