Endangered Species Recovery Plan Project was discussed at the working meeting.

A working meeting was held as part of the "Save Nature - Georgia" joint program of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the Government of Sweden to discuss the Endangered Species Recovery Plan Project prepared by the Institute of Ecology of Ilia State University.

The species recovery document comprises species that should be restored at the national level, in compliance with the principles set forth by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The Species Recovery Plan will serve -as a guiding document for government, non-governmental, scientific sectors, and donor organizations to plan and implement species recovery actions.

"Georgia will have a national plan for the restoration of wild animals and wild plants, and we will continue to restore our rich biodiversity in compliance with this document. Moreover, dozens of species have become extinct or threatened with extinction in the last hundred years. The national recovery plan serves as the cornerstone for the scientific justification, consistent policy, and mobilization of necessary funds ", said the Head of the Department of Biodiversity and Forestry of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mr. Carl Amirgulashvili.

The members of the Coordinating Council of the State Biodiversity Monitoring System, representatives of international and local non-governmental organizations, scientific research institutes, and relevant agencies included in the system of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture attended the meeting.

Since 2021, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture has been implementing the "Save Nature - Georgia" program, with funding from the Swedish government. The project aims to improve the sustainable management of natural resources in Georgia, promote the protection and restoration of biodiversity, improve air quality, and strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry and its agencies.
