Mayor's Statement: Nashville Shootings

March 31, 2023

Mayor Armondo Pavone and City Council President Valerie O'Halloran issued a statement in response to the recent senseless violence in Nashville, Tennessee.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at The Covenant School in Nashville this past week, and we condemn the senseless violence that cut six innocent lives short and forever impacted so many - including family members, friends, and all the students and faculty at the Covenant School for whom life will never be the same.

As the leaders of our community here in Renton, we stand in solidarity with the people of Nashville in offering our condolences to the families of the victims and to the Nashville community during this time of deep grief.

We cannot undo this act of violence. We can only honor the memory of those lost by striving to create a better world, one where senseless acts of violence are no longer a reality. We must work together to combat violence in all forms and ensure that our communities are safe for everyone.

Please join us in remembering Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all 9 years old, and faculty members Katherine Koonce, Cynthia Peak, and Mike Hill.
