On 4-15-24, detectives with the Stolen Property Enforcement and Recovery Unit (SPEAR) completed investigations into several commercial burglaries in North Spokane. On 3-26-24 a commercial burglary took place in the 1800 block of West Francis. Entry was made into the businesses through the roof in the early morning hours and over $33,000.00 of merchandise was stolen. SPEAR investigators recovered $13,000.00 of the stolen items.

As the investigation unfolded, detectives linked another burglary to the same suspect that took place on 3-16-24 on the 8100 block of North Division. The method of entry was the same on both incidents. The identification of the suspect in the burglaries was aided by the Spokane County Sheriff's Office. Gabriel R. Owens (32), who works as a roofer, was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on April 15th for 2nd Degree Commercial Burglary, 1st Degree Theft from a building and 2nd Degree Malicious Mischief for the burglary on Francis Avenue. On April 16th, Owens was booked on additional charges of 2nd Degree Commercial Burglary, 2nd Degree Malicious Mischief, 1st Degree Trafficking Stolen Property and 2nd Degree Theft from a building for the incident that took place on North Division. Owens bonded out of jail on 4-19-24.

Owens has an extensive criminal history with prior felony convictions for 1st Degree Burglary and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. SPEAR detectives are attempting to recover the remaining stolen property. The missing items are pictured and listed below.
