Panama City Celebrates National Public Works Week

The City of Panama City is celebrating National Public Works Week from May 21-27, 2023.

National Public Works Week honors the professionals who work around the clock maintaining infrastructure for transportation, water, wastewater and stormwater systems, public buildings, solid waste, environmental protection, right-of-way management, vehicle management for city vehicles, and signage.

The year 2023 marks the 63rd annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association/Canadian Public Works Association. This year's theme is 'Connecting the World Through Public Works.' It highlights how workers connect us physically, through infrastructure and inspirationally, through service to their communities, whether as first responders or daily workers carrying out their duties with pride.

In conjunction with National Public Works Week, the City Commission adopted a resolution on May 23, 2023, recognizing public works professionals in Panama City as Public Works First Responders, noting they provide vital support to emergency response partners, help protect essential services and restore those services following an emergency situation.

Residents and visitors traveling around Panama City will begin to see the Public Works First Responder symbol displayed on city vehicles. The symbol uses the familiar colors of orange, black and white, with a design reminiscent of road construction signs, safety cones and orange construction barrels.

If you're interested in a career with Panama City's Public Works Team, please visit the "Employment " section of the city's website or contact the Human Resources Department at (850) 872-3009.
