Collaboration between Western Sydney University and UNSW Sydney fosters a new generation of engineers, architects and entrepreneurs

Western Sydney University is pleased to welcome UNSW Sydney to the world-leading $300 million Engineering Innovation Hub in Parramatta.

A cutting-edge engineering and innovation precinct developed by Western Sydney University, together with UNSW and in partnership with Charter Hall, the Engineering Innovation Hub is located in Hassall Street and embedded in the civic heart of the Parramatta CBD.

A major investment in the future of the Western Sydney region, the Engineering Innovation Hub commenced teaching at the start of this year. It is home to a range of Western Sydney University programs, including a collaborative joint engineering degree developed and delivered in partnership with UNSW, and offers courses in architecture, industrial design and entrepreneurship.

Western Sydney University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Barney Glover AO, said the world-class precinct is about fostering innovation in the engineering sector, and creating meaningful connections and knowledge-sharing between universities, industry and the community.

"Western Sydney University is pleased to collaborate with UNSW as part of the Engineering Innovation Hub - leveraging each university's unique strengths to create new opportunities to collaborate across the disciplines, drive academic excellence and promote economic growth for the western Sydney region," said Professor Glover.

"Together, we are helping to foster the next generation of engineers, architects and entrepreneurial leaders and delivering exceptional opportunities across education, business, industry and research."

Intensifying collaboration at a critical time for the region, Western Sydney University is partnering extensively with UNSW in medical research at Liverpool and Campbelltown, and as members of the NUW Alliance - a grouping of leading Australian universities, including the universities of Newcastle and Wollongong.

UNSW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Attila Brungs visited the Hub in June. Professor Brungs said UNSW is eager to ensure its mission for positive impact is not limited by its traditional campus footprint in the city's east.

"Innovation is part of UNSW's DNA, and we are proud to have joined forces with Western Sydney University to provide this premier engineering program in Western Sydney," said Professor Brungs.

"Our presence in the Parramatta CBD builds on UNSW's engagement in Greater Sydney and provides a platform for future collaborations with new and existing partners to address local needs."

The Engineering Innovation Hub is further supporting the University's integrated research programs and its LaunchPad tech startup incubator - fostering a vibrant startup community in Western Sydney and helping to drive an innovation ecosystem for the region.

The state-of-the-art facility provides a range of enriching spaces for study, research and co-working; including maker spaces, project rooms, architecture studios, entrepreneurial studios, workplace spaces, tech labs and leading-edge engineering labs.

The Engineering Innovation Hub is part of Western Sydney University's Western Growth strategy - an ambitious program reshaping the University's campus network and co-creating cities and transformative educational infrastructure across Western Sydney, in partnership with industry and government.

Western Sydney University and its partners are planning for an official opening of the Engineering Innovation Hub later in the year.
