International Francophonie Day

FREDERICTON (GNB) - The following statement was issued today by Glen Savoie, minister responsible for La Francophonie, on the occasion of International Francophonie Day, March 20:

On March 20, millions of people who are part of the worldwide Francophonie celebrate their pride in speaking, sharing and living in French, while contributing to world development. And this year, they will do it under the theme 321 millions de francophones, des milliards de contenus culturels (321 million francophones, billions of cultural contents).

New Brunswick has been a member of the International Organization of La Francophonie since 1977, along with 87 other states and governments, which gives us a greater visibility on the international stage. Being a member of this organization also allows us to develop unique economic and cultural opportunities; highlight the expertise of the people of our province in various fields; and recruit international students and immigrants to meet the needs of our workforce.

As minister responsible for La Francophonie, I thank the City of Dieppe for hosting the official celebrations of the International Francophonie Day in the province.

I take this opportunity to invite all New Brunswickers to visit our website to discover francophone cultural content and to consult the calendar of events that will take place in Dieppe this week and elsewhere in the province until the end of March.

Let us proudly celebrate the fact that our province belongs to the extended family of the international Francophonie by enjoying and sharing francophone and Acadian cultural content.

Happy International Francophonie Day 2023!
