On Tuesday, the Fort Worth City Council approved the recommended agreement with All City Management Services Inc. for crossing guard services. This agreement will provide coverage for all intersections and includes base salary increases for school crossing guards and field supervisors.

Why it matters: The Transportation & Public Works (TPW) Department's goal is to ensure the safety of elementary and middle school-age children crossing intersections in Fort Worth.

  • TPW covers 14 school districts and 166 schools with elementary and middle school-age children for a total of 314 intersections.
  • All 314 intersections will be provided coverage, and the City estimated a total of 374 intersections by the end of the initial three-year term and 434 intersections by the fifth year, if the City chooses to renew the agreement.
  • Each school crossing guard will work three hours per day, and each school crossing field supervisor will work five hours per day.

The contract would be in an amount of up to $4,529,115 for the first year, $5,166,215 for the second year, and $5,820,550 for the third year. The initial three-year term also includes two one-year renewals for up to $6,546,315 for the first renewal and $7,318,035 for the second renewal.

The agreement covers base salary increases for school crossing guards and school crossing guards field supervisors base salary increases, as well as adding additional intersections to support the growth of the School Crossing Guards program. Funding for the program comes from the Crime Control & Prevention District Fund (CCPD).

What's next: Crossing guard services are set to be implemented in the morning and afternoon hours for regular and summer school days. This will ensure the safety of school children at intersections throughout the city and provide essential crossing guard services.
